Li Xiaoyao, a young inn attendant who dreams of becoming a great hero, accidentally meets Zhao Ling'er, a descendant of the goddess Nuwa. Together, they embark on a quest to find the Water Spiritual Bead, which can end the drought plaguing the land. Along the way, they befriend the bickering partner Lin Yueru and the scholarly Liu Jinyuan, among other like-minded companions. They face numerous dangers in their search for the spiritual bead and ultimately thwart the cataclysmic scheme of the Moon Worship Sect's leader, who aims to destroy the world.
The film tells the story of Yang Ye, who died in battle in Youzhou. After his death, the emperor bestowed the Nine-Ring Golden Dagger, a treasure of the Yang family, to the Song Dynasty. However, it fell into the hands of the Liao Kingdom. In their grief and anger, Yang's eighth and ninth sisters went to the Liao Kingdom to reclaim the precious dagger. On their journey back, they encountered Jiao Guangpu, a displaced general from the Song Dynasty. Initially strangers, they later joined forces to safely return the treasure to their homeland.

Wu Yue (Chinese: 吴樾, born 25 April 1976) is a Chinese actor best known for playing heroes in various films and television series. Some of his more notable roles in television include: Chen Zhen in Huo Yuanjia and Jingwu Yingxiong Chen Zhen (2001); Di Yun in Lian Cheng Jue (2004); Yan Qing in Langzi Yan Qing (2004); Zhang San in Zuixia Zhang San (2006); Xia Shijie in Fankang Zhi Zhenxin Yingxiong (2008); Sun Wukong in Journey to the West (2011); Ariq Böke in The Legend of Kublai Khan (2013). Wu was enrolled in the Central Academy of Drama in 1997 and graduated in 2001. Apart from acting, he practises martial arts and holds a National Martial Arts Championship grade in wushu. He is currently a member of the National Theatre Company of China. He also wrote lyrics and performed songs for some of the films and television series he acted in.
