The Weight of Sight is a playful and very personal essay where director Truls Krane Meby, through a massive archive of his own material - anything from DV-tapes to 35mm - explores the last 20 years of digital development - how it’s influenced the images we make, and our bodies. What kind of images do we get of the world now that everyone is a photographer, and what does it do with how we unfold our identities? How has the internet both captured and freed us? And will Truls even dare to show this film?
Katja (27) lives in Berlin and dreams every night of her own death, and her waking hours are a constant stream of work, digital distraction and a paranoia about the future - her inner life moving at a speed that seems unsustainable. While on vacation in northern Norway, she has an extreme encounter with raw nature and gets a new perspective on herself - she returns to Berlin with the intentions of changing her life. But the demon inside her is hard to shake off.
At the end of the 1990s the Internet comes to Northern Norway and coincides with the sexual awakening of young Mads (12). The introduction of pornographic images into his life complicates his relationship with his parents, and their house becomes a minefield filled with uncomfortable interactions.
Truls Krane Meby is a Norway- and Berlin-based, award-winning and self-taught filmmaker from Lofoten, in Arctic Norway, who works as a director, editor, and writer. He is an alumni of the Berlinale Talents (as director), doc.incubator (as editor) and is currently developing several feature film projects.
