He knows that breaking the law will bring retribution from the government, and he accepts the consequences of his actions. In fact, he's begging for their retaliation as his family and neighbors worry about his safety.
Larry Bassett, a pacifist who lives in downtown Lynchburg, Bassett said he refuses to pay $128,000 in federal taxes owed by resent deadline, citing Henry David Thoreau, the 19th century philosopher who wrote the pamphlet “Civil Disobedience.”
