Jenny, a single mother raising two daughters after her husband leaves, is aided by her widowed mother, Mary. But Jenny struggles to stay afloat after Mary suffers a devastating stroke and develops dementia.

Housewife Diane, schoolgirl Rosie, newlywed Jasmin, businesswoman Roanna, midwife Vicky and writer and teaching assistant Kim all have their own issues to deal with.
Born in 1991 in Leeds, Gemma Dobson is a British actress whose TV credits include the second series of Kay Mellor's In The Club, ITV's Brief Encounters and the Jimmy McGovern TV film Care. In 2017 she made her stage debut as Sue in the revival of Andrea Dunbar's play Rita, Sue and Bob Too, for which she won a 2018 Stage Debut award for Best Actress in a Play. She followed this up with the role of Jo in the Oldham Coliseum's production of A Taste of Honey.
